Matt writes: Despite the COVID-19 pandemic preventing our writers from attending the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival in person this year, our Managing Editor Brian Tallerico is still screening all of the highlights remotely. Keep your eyes peeled each day for his latest dispatches from the festival, which kicked off September 10th and runs through Sunday, September 20th. A few of the hotly anticipated titles he's reviewed thus far are Francis Lee's "Ammonite," starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan, Regina King's "One Night in Miami," starring Leslie Odom Jr., and ChloƩ Zhao's "Nomadland," starring Frances McDormand.

Sheila writes: In 1968, Stanley Kubrick, whose game-changing "2001" was released that year, was interviewed for Playboy magazine. You can check out a facsimile of the interview here, but Open Culture has transcribed some of it, in particular the section where Kubrick gives some predictions on what the world will look like in the year 2001. It's fascinating speculative stuff.

Jack Kerouac famously wrote the majority of "On the Road" on one long scroll of paper. Kerouac found that taking the time to remove the finished pages off of the typewriter and replacing them with a fresh sheet interrupted his flow. California artist Paul Rogers, who has done ten book covers for Random House UK of Hemingway classic, has created an online scroll of beautiful illustrations for Kerouac's novel. Evocative and gritty, they make a great companion piece for "On the Road". You can see more of Paul Rogers' cool work at his site.
